Welcome to Old Republic Fly
A great place for folks who fly fish the waters of the Old Republic of Texas.
Independent Texas Angling in the Old Republic
If you’re reading this, you may know me from our community over on Instagram at @pearlsnapflyfishing.
For a few years now, we’ve relied on Instagram to share our experiences, when we had time. But the algorithms aren’t enough. We all know they favor quick trends over deep engagement—noise over signal.
Old Republic Fly is an intentional step up from that model. This is our new, independent, direct-to-inbox home for the dedicated fly angler. I’ll say it out loud right here: I want to share some stories with y’all, not just a few photos or very short video snippets. I started out as a journalist in the late 1990s, and I believe long-form narrative beats a 14-second snippet any day. Especially when it comes to connecting us to one another. We still like the idea of keeping folks updated via select socials. We just think it’s time to write and create longer and more in-depth and more meaningful stories. Actual stories, not just a picture or video snip telegram.
What You Can Expect From Old Republic Fly:
Deep-Dive Technical Content: Real strategies for all kinds of fly fishing: warm water, cold water, and saltwater. Things like rigging for coastal winds and warm-water entomology. Where to catch snook in the mangroves in Texas waters, and when you should try. But also, why you should try.
Unfiltered Field Notes: Honest gear reviews? Mmmmmaybe. But definitely our thoughts on ethics, conservation, and advocacy. Stream notes, too.
Exclusive Resources: Downloadable packing checklists, stream guides, fly recipes, and member-only resources designed to help you spend more productive time on the water.
This platform belongs to the community we’ve already begun building. We hate spam as much as y’all do, and we’re trying to build a little distance from the algos. I just want to tell y’all some stories. If you value independent angling media and want to join us for the long haul—or double haul, as it were—drop your email below to subscribe. Thank you very much.

The community of anglers is really lacking in marble falls, I hope this builds the connections that is very much needed
